Quay West Suites Sydney

When it comes to iconic views of Sydney Harbor, the five star Sebel Quay West Suites Sydney has one of the best. In our research, this hotel ranked in several “Top 10 views of Sydney Opera House” articles and is well known for its luxurious amenities.

Located in the historic Rocks district, Quay West is an optimal home base while exploring Sydney’s CBD and Circular Quay, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Bridge, and so much more. Visit the Botanical Royal Gardens and Art Museum, or the famous Pitt Street Mall. Close by are Bondi Beach, Taronga Zoo, Manly Beach, Darling Harbour, and the ferry terminal is a few blocks away for easy transport. We chose Quay West for the experience, location, and convenience.

You are in the right place! Quay West Suites in Sydney doesn’t flash large signs at their entrance.

Driving in downtown Sydney is a little tricky. If you make a wrong turn just before the hotel, you’ll end up crossing the Sydney bridge and have an incredibly long detour before circling back. We looked at this positively and were happy we experienced driving over the bridge.

The Hotel only has valet parking. Pull your car up to the front entrance and an employee will meet you there. Even though they are slow to park the car, the valet is quick to bring them around.

Entering the lobby, we were pleased with the friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, and the convenient check-in.

Living & Dining Room

Entering our apartment-style suite, we stepped into a small entry hall. It was a perfect place to leave our luggage for a time and take pictures. There was a closet with a safe and pool towels near the door. Passing several doorways, we quickly walked straight for the living room to see our main space with its views. We were very pleased with the size but especially blown away by the picturesque views.

The living room was large and had windows expanding across the entire wall. There was plenty of space, even with the sofa bed extended.

Aside from comfortable lounge couches and chairs, a large desk, and a spacious dining table, the TV offered room service ordering and on-screen billing info. For an additional fee, wireless wifi internet is available. Large mirrors were strategically placed on the walls near this space, giving an allusion of larger size and showing off the harbor views.

The spectacular views of Sydney’s harbour, bridge, skyline, and Opera House is hard to beat! Including The Rocks, Circular Quay, and the many ships easily seen from our windows.

The actual view from room #1706 can’t get any better in downtown Sydney! Worth the extra penny.

The fully equipped kitchen was quite small, but was part of the open floor plan, facing the grandeur view of the harbor. There was a microwave, mini bar, with coffee and tea appliances to use. With our tight schedule, we didn’t end up using the kitchen for more than toasting crumpets and storing some items in the mini-fridge. The extra space was appreciated for easy access and organizing our edible treats.

The brightly colored, modern design, yet small sized kitchen still met our needs while staying in the suite.

There were double mini-fridges stored within the cabinets of the kitchen. One was stocked with mini-bar items for purchase. The other was empty to use.

Room #1

Quay West offers one or two-bedroom suites. For our family of five, we chose the two bedrooms, knowing there was a sofa bed in the living room.

This first room has a queen-size bed, two separate closets with bathrobes hanging in them. Several of the bedroom windows have great views; including one of the Harbour Bridge. The flat screen TV was useful for winding down at night and catching up with local news. There is a bathroom located within its doors; making this room the master suite.

Well polished marble encased the brightly lit bathroom.

Overall we were pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the facilities. One of the bathrooms had additional wear on the tiles, but it was easy to look passed. This bathroom had a phone and a drain in the center of the floor.

Room #2

Second bedroom in the Two Bedroom Suite at Quay West located in Sydney.

This second bedroom was a bit smaller, but had a king sized bed in it. No TV in here. Only one window with views of the freeway and a harbor channel. The beds were extremely comfortable and the sheets felt freshly soft.

The layered curtains were wonderful. If we wanted a little privacy while still enjoy the views, we closed the sheer black panels. Behind those were blackout curtains. We had to drop those down once the window cleaning crew came to work on our windows.

The second bathroom was a smaller, with a sink, toilet, and a shower.

This smaller second bathroom was located in the hall between the two bedrooms. It was perfect for the boys to share with easy access to their room and pull out sofa. A bonus; the shower heads were tall enough for our 6′ 8″ (203cm) son to use comfortably.

In-room laundry made it easy for us to pack light and wash our clothes at various points on our trip.

The laundry facility had a decent size washer and dryer, with provided soaps. The ironing board and iron were stored there too.

The Indoor Pool

Not only did the Quay West have a great Roman-style indoor infinity pool; they also had a gym, spa, and sauna.

The view at night was just as spectacular as the day. I spent a lot of time sitting at the window enjoying the view of the city lights dancing off the harbor.

Tips:

  • If you are not familiar with the area, study the street map before arriving and be careful driving.
  • Leave the car at the front entrance and eventually someone will come out.
  • Need refrigerator space or not planning on purchasing the mini bar items? Call in advance and have them remove those items from the room.
