Staying at the Coral Tower Holiday Apartments was decided based on location and value. We needed a space large enough for our family of five and located close to downtown Cairns. We were a little concerned about the potential for noise from the nearby airport, but we were not disturbed by the noise at night.
The Exterior
Driving down the palm tree-lined Cairns Esplanade, we saw gorgeous views of Trinity Bay. Across the street, the large Coral Towers Apartments stood out among the residential neighborhoods.
Parking is free, secure (with video cameras), and located on the apartments’ bottom level. When you check-in, you will receive a numbered parking spot and the parking structure’s entrance code.
Living Space
Through the security screen and wooden door, you enter into an open floor plan with a wrap-around patio. A large dining table made it easy to unload our full hands. The furniture was clean enough but could use an update.
We did not spend a lot of extra time inside the apartment. But after a long day touring, it was relaxing and a sufficient home base. We also used the roll away bed in the living room. The mattress was uncomfortable on the frame, so we took it off and laid it on the floor for better support.
We used the fully equipped kitchen for breakfast in the mornings and storing drinks and treats. The extra space is always welcome.
Next to the kitchen is the laundry room. I was pleased with the size and being able to finish the chore in that space. Coral Towers supplied one detergent packet, so bring your own if you plan on doing more than a single load of laundry.
2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms
Bedroom #1
The queen size bed was comfortably ample. It had a connecting bathroom, making this room the master suite.
The bathroom was tiny and needed updating. The counter space was compact but worked for the limited time we were there.
Bedroom #2
The two twin beds were comfortable, though we did find a hair in the bedsheets. If you tend to get cold and need additional blankets, be sure to request them early. The balcony offered outstanding views of Cairns and the back mountains (pictures below).
The larger of the two bathrooms was located next to the second bedroom. It had plenty of counter and floor space for all three of our sons’ belongings.
Views
The best thing about these apartments is their views. You will get excellent sunrises over the ocean and sunsets behind the mountains.
Tips:
- Look for discounts online before booking.
- The hotel is a little too far from the town center, so if you don’t have a car, expect to use a ride-sharing service.
- This is an apartment building, don’t expect the grandiosity of a hotel.
- Request extra blankets if you tend to get cold easily.
- A tour desk is available to help book excursions.
