Just a 20-minute drive from Nadi Airport, First Landing feels like a tropical getaway without the pretentiousness of Denarau Island.
We only planned on staying in Fiji for one day this trip, so we wanted to optimize our time. This meant we couldn’t pick a far-off hotel like the Uprising Resort in Pacific Harbor, but we didn’t want to stay in the cookie-cutter resorts at Denarau Island.
This open-air resort blends lush tropical landscapes with ample covered seating within the grounds.
Accommodations
We stayed in Spa bure 302 & 303 with ocean beach fronts. The rooms had screened-in patios, were clean, had air conditioning, and comfortable beds. They are not luxury accommodations, but still comfortable.
We had a small problem with ants in our bed and alerted the staff to the problem. We didn’t want them spraying poison throughout our room, so we dealt with it on our own.
Activities
First Landing Resort offers daily activities to participate in if you choose. There are a few boards around the property with daily schedules posted.
Kayaking
Kayaks and life jackets are waiting to be used off of First Landing’s white sandy beach.
Kayaking between the “left foot island” and Mangrove trees was a lot of fun. It was so relaxing with the warm water and gentle waves.
Palm Weaving
Mariam patiently taught us how to weave palm fronds into a bag. Some of us had an easier time than the others, but eventually, we all made bags and “sunglasses”.
Volleyball With Locals
The daytime staff gets together to play volleyball while waiting for their evening bus. Our boys had fun playing with the locals, but it was an uneven match.
Swimming
The main pool located on the grounds has beautiful surroundings and is very clean. A freshwater shower is available to rinse off before or after swimming.
Restaurant / Bar
Overall the food was adequate.
Complementary Breakfast at Mai Kana
Breakfast was a continental breakfast that consisted of fruits, yogurt, a few kinds of cereal, simple pastries, juices, and coffee. An option to upgrade to a hot breakfast was available for a small price.
Lunch at Nalamu Bar
We ordered two large pizzas, drinks, and potato wedges at the bar. The pizzas were huge and were very delicious.
Dinner at Mai Kana
The atmosphere for dinner was picture perfect. Sitting outside during the sunset among beautiful gardens next to the beach, and a live Fijian band playing island classics was a great way to end our day.
We ordered two seafood platters with an assortment to choose from. The oysters and lobsters were absolutely delicious. There was also fish, shrimp, and ceviche.
Bula Vinaka, First Landing Resort
Though our visit was short, we made the most of our time at the First Landing Resort. We enjoyed the facilities, beautiful views, and friendly Fijian staff.
